What We Do

Brigades

Brigades are during both summer and winter breaks and are not mandatory to attend to become a member. These are opportunities we provide for those who want to get involved with us over break! The countries we serve include: Greece, Ghana, Panama, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In December 2023, we will be going to Ghana and then Athens, Greece in summer 2024.

During our 1 week long brigades, we volunteer and shadow physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to provide health services for community members. As student volunteers, we assist in various stations to improve health education and aid the delivery of health care. Examples of past stations include triage, consultation, OB/GYN, optometry, health education, pharmacy, and dentistry. From taking vital signs to gathering supplies for health professionals, we participate in every aspect of the health clinic to implement a sustainable health system. Back at our compound, we engage in cultural competence and address issues that result in the lack of health education and access we see in these communities.
